Omron's Junma ultra-compact servo does more than just save time, space and wiring

Omron's Junma series of ultra-compact servo drives drastically reduces cabling and set-up time, while saving up to 30% of cabinet space. The series is the first in the world to be fully tuning-less and program-less.

Comprising pocket-sized servo drives with the smallest footprint, Omron's Junma series is much more compact than competitive offerings. Space-saving features are always welcomed by machine builders and Junma servo drives occupy surprisingly little cabinet space. Moreover, the built-in MECHATRONIK motion bus reduces cabling and simplifies wiring because just a single cable is required to connect the servos together. This saves installation time and reduces cabling while reducing the chance of connection errors. The MECHATRONIK motion bus also enables remote servo configuration and diagnosis.

Dynamic Self-Tuning
Another significant benefit and a key aspect of the Junma series that represents a revolution in servo technology is its 'tuning-less' or Dynamic Self-Tuning feature. Optimal servo control requires adjustment of the control parameters to match the moment of inertia and resonance characteristics of a machine. However, this task is difficult for two reasons. First, it is not easy to accurately determine a machine's characteristics, and second, tuning the servo drives parameters to match the machine is very complicated and time consuming. With the Junma series, both of these are now a thing of the past.

Dynamic Self-Tuning eliminates the laborious manual tuning process through two major components: 'Feedback Correction', which provides constant time responses, and 'Auto Notch', which changes the Notch filter parameters to suppress the mechanical resonance automatically. This enables Junma servo drives to instantaneously control any resonance and eliminates the need to adjust the drive's control parameters.

Optimal Compact Positioning System
Combine the Junma series with Omron's NCF positioning unit and you have a complete and powerful point-to-point positioning system. This combination offers 16-axes positioning with linear interpolation, plus interrupt feeding. Moreover, when the Junma servo drive is controlled by an NCF, the system is fully transparent from a remote PC when connected to the PLC and via any serial or Ethernet link, thus complying fully with Omron Smart Platform.
